Kelly Ripa Shares Advice From Oprah Winfrey on Eventually Leaving ‘Live’

After 25 years at the helm of daytime television, Kelly Ripa is reflecting on what comes next — and she’s turning to one of the most influential voices in talk show history for guidance.

In a candid February 25 interview with Variety, the longtime host of Live with Kelly and Mark revealed that she recently sought advice from none other than Oprah Winfrey, who famously stepped away from her groundbreaking daytime program after its own 25-year run.

Ripa admitted that hitting the 25-year milestone felt significant — almost symbolic. “I said to her, ‘Should this be my signal?’” Ripa recalled asking Winfrey. The answer she received was immediate and direct.

“She’s like, ‘Don’t leave. Don’t do it right now. You’ll regret it.’”

For Ripa, who now co-hosts the show alongside her husband, Mark Consuelos, the question of when to step away is layered. The couple’s on-air chemistry has become a defining element of the show’s current era, blending humor, candor, and an easy intimacy that resonates with audiences.

According to Ripa, Winfrey emphasized just how meaningful that connection is — particularly in today’s media landscape. In a world saturated by a relentless 24-hour news cycle and heavy headlines, the warmth and levity of Live offer viewers a consistent, comforting space.

As a mother of three and a veteran of live television, Ripa understands the weight of longevity. Few hosts achieve a 25-year milestone in the same program, and even fewer do so while maintaining ratings relevance and cultural impact. Yet she insists she and Consuelos are still enjoying the ride.

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” she said, noting that the pair are “really having a very good time.”

Still, the question lingers. Ripa joked that she may need to circle back to Winfrey for clarification. “You said not to leave at 25, but what year? What are we thinking? Give me an idea of how far beyond 25 I should go.”

Winfrey, who concluded The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2011 at the height of its influence, has often spoken about leaving on her own terms. Her advice to Ripa reflects the delicate balance between instinct, timing, and gratitude for a platform that continues to connect with millions.

For now, Ripa appears content to stay put. With strong audience loyalty, a revitalized format alongside her husband, and the endorsement of a television icon, she seems to be embracing the present rather than rushing toward the exit.

Whether year 26 becomes 30 remains to be seen. But if Oprah Winfrey’s counsel carries weight — and it certainly does — Kelly Ripa’s daytime chapter may be far from over
