Details on Eric Dane’s posthumous memoir revealed, Grey’s Anatomy star wrote ‘right up to the end’

The late “Grey’s Anatomy” actor worked on the manuscript “right up to the end,” publisher Maria Shriver said.

New information has been revealed about a memoir written by Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane. According to reports, the actor spent his final months reflecting on his life and experiences through deeply personal writing

Fans will be able to learn more about the late Grey’s Anatomy star in his upcoming posthumous memoir, My Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments. The book will be released on Nov. 3 through former first lady of California Maria Shriver’s publishing imprint The Open Field.

Shriver said she was “honored” that Dane chose her imprint to share his story in an Instagram post on Thursday. She said the fall release date was “keeping with Eric’s wishes.”

“He told me he wanted his family to know how much he loved them, and he wanted to leave them a story they could be proud of,” she said. “He was working on the manuscript right up to the end.”

The late actor announced his memoir in December, explaining that it would touch on his career, including highlights from Euphoria and Grey’s Anatomy, as well as his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis.

“I wake up every morning, and I’m immediately reminded that this is real — this illness, this challenge and that’s exactly why I’m writing this book,” Dane said in a statement at the time. “I want to capture the moments that shaped me — the beautiful days, the hard ones, the ones I never took for granted — so that if nothing else, people who read it will remember what it means to live with heart. If sharing this helps someone find meaning in their own days, then my story is worth telling.”

Dane died of respiratory failure at the age of 53 on Feb. 19, with ALS listed as an underlying cause. He revealed that he was diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disease in April 2025.

After the Charmed actor’s death, Shriver paid tribute to him, mourning the fact that they were supposed to see each other the following week. The two had been in touch about Dane’s autobiography.

“His passing is another powerful reminder that today is all any of us have,” the journalist said in her Sunday Paper newsletter. “Next week isn’t guaranteed.”

Dane is survived by his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, and their two daughters, Billie Beatrice, 16, and Georgia Geraldine, 13. In an interview with Netflix that aired the day after his death, he shared a heartfelt message to his daughters detailing the “four things I’ve learned from this disease.” He urged them to live in the present, fall in love, find their people, and to fight with dignity.

“The two of you are different people. But you’re both strong and resilient. You inherited resiliency from me. That’s my superpower,” the Burlesque actor quipped. “You knock me down, I bounce right up, and I keep coming back. I get up again, and again, and again.”
