Viral Video Shows Group Surrounding 11-Year-Old Black Girl and Yelling Rac*al Slu*s at Her, as Police Investigate

The incident, which is being investigated by police and the school district in Carlsbad, Calif., occurred in a public park

A viral video circulating online has prompted an investigation after a group of students were seen surrounding an 11-year-old girl at a public park in California. Authorities say the footage shows the group directing offensive language toward the child during the confrontation.
The video, reported by NBC 7, KUSI and The Coast News, featured the group standing around the girl, who was on a bike at the time.
Racial slurs can be heard in the video, and at one point a boy says it feels “racist” and, “We’re all ganging up on a Black girl.”
The girl tried to back up on her bike and leave, but was prevented from doing so and then slapped, at which point she fought back and the video ended.
NBC 7 spoke to the girl’s mother, April Amor, who said the students all go to Aviara Oaks Middle School in Carlsbad.
“She stood her ground,” Amor told the outlet. “I told my daughter, you don’t start fights, but you better finish them. And I’m proud. I’m proud of how she conducted herself.”
After the video circulated, the Carlsbad Police Department and Carlsbad Unified School District said they were investigating the matter.
“The Carlsbad Police Department and Carlsbad Unified School District take incidents involving accusations of bullying, harassment, and discriminatory language that may be deemed as a hate crime seriously,” the joint statement reads, NBC 7 reported. “We are committed to ensuring all members of our community, especially students, feel safe and respected.”
Amor told the outlet that she wants the students involved to be prosecuted.
“I want to see justice for my daughter and for all of the other children who have suffered the same type of treatment,” she said, per NBC 7.
