Kindergartener, Two Adults Ki*led In Sho*ting Outside Texas High School Football Stadium, Police Say

Authorities believe the shooting was a murder-suicide, according to reports

A heartbreaking incident in Texas has left a community in shock after three people, including a young child, lost their lives near a high school football stadium. Authorities confirmed the event occurred outside the venue, prompting an immediate response.

Police responded to reports of gunfire in the parking lot of Birdville ISD’s football stadium, located in Haltom City, Texas, at around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 27, according to local outlet FOX 4.

When officers arrived, they found three people — an adult male, an adult female, and a female child — deceased at the scene, WFAA reported. One of the victims was identified as the shooter, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Police say that the fatal shootings followed a domestic dispute in the parking lot of the football stadium. The man and the woman separately drove their vehicles into the parking lot before the male shot and killed the woman and female child while inside the vehicle, WFAA reported, citing authorities. The shooter is believed to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot a short time later.

“They definitely know each other, and we believe they have some kind of family relationship,” Sgt. Rick Alexander of the Haltom City Police Department said on Friday, according to FOX 4.

The identities of the victims have not yet been made public, though the deceased child was identified as a kindergarten student at Cheney Hills Elementary, a school in the district, by Birdville ISD officials, per the outlet.

One of the victims died at the scene, while another died at the hospital. The shooter received medical treatment before dying “short time later,” the Star-Telegram reported, citing police.

In a statement shared with FOX 4, Birdville ISD said that it was “heartbroken this has occurred in our community, and we are working closely with Haltom City Police as they investigate this incident.”

PEOPLE has reached out to the Haltom City Police Department and Birdville ISD for comment.
