Authorities are investigating a shooting at Old Dominion University that left one person dead and two others hospitalized. The incident took place on campus in Virginia, prompting a swift response from university police and emergency services.

Police further confirmed that the assailant of the Thursday, March 12, shooting also dead, which the university itself had said in an earlier statement.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether the victims or the shooter were students, staff or faculty at the college. Police said all three victims had an affiliation with the institution.

In its initial alert, university officials asked everyone to “follow run-hide-fight protocols.”

The shooting took place in Constant Hall, which is a hub for the college’s business school.

Around 11:11 a.m., Norfolk Police said on X that they were on scene at the campus for “an active incident.”

The shooter had been “neutralized” by 11:30 a.m., per the university’s statement.
