Babysitter Who Starved Toddler, Kicked and Mo*ked Her, and Called Her Vulg*r Names Learns Fate

Prosecutors said Carly Rae Webb deprived the child of food, struck them in the face, cursed at them, and pretended to shoot them with a play gun

A woman in Virginia has been sentenced following her conviction in a case involving the abuse of a toddler who was in her care. Prosecutors said the child suffered serious mistreatment over a period of time, leading to a criminal investigation.

Twenty-one-year-old Carly Rae Webb was sentenced to 12 months in jail and three months probation on Friday, March 13, according to multiple reports.

Bedford County Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Stacey Stickney said Webb abused the child between the ages of 19 and 23 months, from October 2023 to January 2024, according to WDBJ, the Lynchburg News & Advance, and WBRC.

At the sentencing hearing on Friday, Judge James Updike Jr. dismissed 12 other charges in connection with Webb’s case.

Bedford County Investigator Michelle Alderson testified at the trial that she reviewed months of footage showing Webb ignoring, mistreating and physically abusing the child, according to the reports.

Webb would at times deprive the child of food and water for up to 21 hours, and leave the toddler in their crib for up to 9 hours, Alderson said.

Additionally, Webb struck the child in the face, pretended to shoot them with a play gun, placed them in a box, screamed in their face and called the child expletives, prosecutors said, according to the reports.

The judge sentenced Webb on one count of felony child abuse to five years, with four years suspended. She was also sentenced on five misdemeanor counts of assault and battery, with those sentences running concurrently with the felony sentence. In total, Webb was sentenced to nine years but will only serve 12 months behind bars.

Webb pleaded guilty to five of the seventeen charges against her, but a judge found her guilty in October 2025 on all 17 counts.

At sentencing, Webb addressed the court, and both parents shared victim impact statements, according to the reports.

The child’s mother said she was heartbroken by the ordeal and felt betrayed by Webb, who was a close family friend. She called the incident “a nightmare I don’t get to wake up from.”
