Farrah Fawcett’s Son Appears in Court as Legal Case Moves Forward

Redmond O’Neal appeared in court on Tuesday, March 10, in connection with his 2018 arrest

Redmond O’Neal, the son of late Hollywood icons Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O’Neal, was recently spotted appearing in court as his ongoing legal case continues to unfold. Reports noted that he appeared with distinctive tattoos on his forehead during the court appearance.
O’Neal, 41, was charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, among several other counts, in connection with an alleged 2018 crime spree in Los Angeles.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by PEOPLE, O’Neal allegedly attacked a man with a glass bottle and stabbed another.
“Initially, the victim thought that the suspect had merely ‘punched’ him in the back,” authorities said at the time. “However, once paramedics arrived, the paramedics discovered that the victim had sustained a serious stab wound to the left side of his body.”
O’Neal is also accused of robbing a 7-Eleven, PEOPLE previously reported — the culmination of an alleged crime spree that authorities said lasted a week.
The Daily Mail published pictures of O’Neal in court on Tuesday, March 10, showing the son of the two late actors with the new tattoos as he was deemed mentally competent to stand trial.
O’Neal’s attorney further entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf, per the report.
Mela Murphy, O’Neal’s conservator, provided PEOPLE with an exclusive statement.
“Redmond has been drug free and a model patient for 5 years now at Patton State Hospital,” Murphy says. “He has had to overcome so much in his life we are proud of him and Farrah would be too. He finally got a proper mental health diagnosis and medication.

“I believe his serious drug problems in the past were a result of not having mental health support in his earlier life,” the statement continues. “Today, he is participating in 12-step recovery, helps out patients, reads every day, and has found a spiritual life. There are many friends and supporters of Redmond who are in contact with him and are so proud of his journey to recovery.”
Part of a famous Hollywood family, O’Neal’s father Ryan, an Oscar-nominated actor who died in 2023, was in a long-term relationship with his mother, Fawcett, the Charlie’s Angels star who died in 2009.
O’Neal is the only child his father had with Fawcett, though he has multiple half-siblings, including Tatum O’Neal, the Oscar-winning actress.
